COVID-19 Update: Further extensions of time granted

On March 27, 2020, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) announced that they have added an extra month to the extension of time provisions.  Specifically, the period of time for conducting any act before CIPO, having a deadline falling within the period of time beginning on April 1, 2020 and ending on April 30, 2020, has been extended to May 1, 2020. This designation is in addition to the previous designation of the days in the period beginning March 16, 2020 and ending March 31, 2020.  This extension of time applies to patent, trademark and industrial design matters.  CIPO may decide to further extend this period as the situation unfolds.

We should expect to continue receiving correspondence from CIPO during this extension period; however, clients should still anticipate significant delays in all CIPO services.
